David Cowan (1951-2019)

It is with real sadness that I have to record the passing of David Cowan, a good friend and a talented musician, songwriter, singer, actor, and much more.  He was married to Marjorie, who is also in our cast.  Together they were a folk duo called “Fyrish” (he on the guitar, and she on the cello) who performed frequently in Scotland and abroad.

David played the part of Augustus Morte, the publican at The Four Horsemen Inn in Blackhaven in series one, and was scheduled to play the Reverend Esau Leviticus in season two.  Those who heard his rendition of the aggressively ranting Reverend in the Blackhaven stage play “Death at the Big House” will know how brilliant he was in it.

A memorial was held for David on 13th June, where there were many heartfelt tributes reflecting his unstinting service to the local community as well as his talents and achievements.  This was followed by a  wonderful ceilidh of song and music, as he would have wanted.

Rest in peace, David.  You are missed.
